How to join
In order to join the guild, you must...
Be female in real life!
Have a livejournal
In order to verify that you are female you must have or do one of the following things...
30 day old livejournal (at least). If your journal is friends locked, we may ask to temporarily become your friend so we can see them.
A sister-rank member of the guild to vouch for your female-ness.
Speak with an officer on Ventrilo
Having one of the above does not guarantee that you will get into the guild. An officer may ask to get back to you on your membership, and if that is the case please make sure to arrange a time to speak with that officer later on. Regardless of the state of your livejournal, an officer may still ask you to log in to Ventrilo to speak with her.
In order to join, please follow these steps:
Log in to the game with the character you would like invited.
Join the chat channel "dota". Do this by typing "/join dota" into the chat window.
When you join, you should see a message saying something like "You have joined 4. dota". In this case, "4" is the number you use to chat in that channel. So in order to say "hello, is an officer around?" I would type "/4 Hello, is an officer around?"
If an officer is on, they will speak with you and go through the steps to invite you. Please be prepared to give them your livejournal name and log onto ventrilo to chat if necessary.
After you are invited
Please fill out our Daughters of the Alliance new member survey and post it to the community as a new post. (You must be logged in to livejournal and a member of our community to view the new member survey.)
Importance of LiveJournal
LiveJournal is an important part of our guild. It is like a guild forum. Not every woman in the guild had a LiveJournal before she joined so I know it can be difficult to remember to log in and read up on what is going on in the guild.
Luckily you can sign up for notifications (must be logged in to get to that link). I would not recommend signing up for notification every time a post is posted in the community! Your e-mail would get spammed and you'd end up ignoring most of the posts after a while. You can filter what posts you want to be notified about with tags, which I definitely recommend. Here are some tags you might be interested in subscribing to:
Guild Management related
- Guild Rules: Any updates to our rules will be posted under this tag
- Management: Important guild management announcements are posted under this tag
- Read Me: Important general guild announcements are posted under this tag
- Loot Rules: Updates to loot rules will be posted under this tag.
- Suggestion Box: Be notified when a suggestion box post is posted.
Instance related
- Heroics: If you want to be notified for posts for heroic groups (this may have other heroic-related posts too, but not many)
- Instances: If you want to be notified for any instances
- Naxxramas (or other specific instance): If you want to hear about posts for this specific instance, subscribe to it
Raid related
- Kill shots: You want to be notified when your fellow guildies bring down a big baddie (and want to see a screenshot)
- Loot Rules: Updates to loot rules will be posted under this tag.
- Naxxramas (or other specific instance): If you want to hear about posts for this specific instance, subscribe to it
- Raids: If you want to hear about all raids
- Raid minimums: To hear about when raid minimums are changed or updated
- Raid rules: To hear when raid rules are changed or updated
- Raid Schedule: Hear when the raid schedule is changed or there are discussions to change it so you can give input
- Raid Bank: You will be notified when raid bank posts are made so you can make withdrawals
- Strategy: Be notified when new raid strategies are posted.
Social related
- Little Sister Voting: You want to be notified when little sisters are up for voting so you can chip in
- Meetup: If you want to hear about potential meet-ups with other DotA members
- PvP: If you want to hear about opportunities to PvP with DotA members
- New Member: You will be notified when new members post their surveys so you can greet them
- Social [or] Social Event: You will be notified when Social Events are posted for the guild to enjoy.
